In2STEM public engagement competition

One of the most important skills needed for a career in STEM is being able to communicate with different audiences. Take a look at the winners of our In2STEM public engagement competition to see how our participants have taken on the creative challenge of making different STEM subjects engaging to a wider audience.

How STEM makes a difference

For this competition, our participants wrote a short blog post describing why they felt their chosen STEM field is important, and how it could make a difference to society:

1st place: Alina on the pioneering research of Dr Sonia Gran

2nd place: Khadija on their placement with Dr Marsh at the University of Leicester

3rd place: Samera on their week at Brunel University

STEM behind the scenes

For this category, we asked participants to capture the unseen world of STEM in a photo or video entry:

Image of tumour cells which won first place in the STEM behind the scenes category of the public engagement competition.

1st place: Malaaika, tumour cells from placement

2nd place: Cameron showcasing the symmetry of biology

3rd place: Redowan exploring the boundaries of AI and robotics

Inspire positive change

For this competition, we wanted to see an eye-catching poster or illustration which communicates a global challenge we are facing and potential solutions to help address it:

Illustrated poster which won first place in the inspire positive change category of the public engagement competition showing tips on how to prepare for future pandemics.

1st place: Eugene on how to prepare for future pandemics

2nd place: Kiruthik on the rise in anti-vaccinationism

3rd place: Jathhi on light pollution

Many thanks to everyone who took part and Uptake Strategies, Frazer-Nash Consultancy, Abcam and In2scienceUK trustee Professor Clare Ray for judging this year’s public engagement competition!
