Core criteria
To be considered for the programme you must meet all of the following eligibility criteria:
Be a British citizen, or have refugee status or indefinite leave to remain in the UK.*
Be able to work full-time (Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm) on a research placement in London, Cambridge, Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool or Scotland for an eight-week period between June and August 2026.
Have accommodation in London, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester or Scotland for the duration of your placement.
Be a second-year undergraduate or above at university or a graduate of a STEM degree. You must not have ever enrolled, taken part in or completed a PhD.
*Please note that we are unable to accept international students on the programme.
Additional criteria
To be considered for our shortlist, you must meet at least one of the criteria that indicates a low socioeconomic background. Our questions will consider:
The occupation of your main household earner when you were aged 14
If you were eligible for free school meals during your school years
What type of school you attended
If your parents went to university
