As I come to the end of my In2careers internship at In2scienceUK, I’m feeling a mix of emotions, gratitude, pride, and a little bit of sadness that it’s already over. This experience has truly exceeded my expectations and I feel so fortunate to have been part of such a welcoming and inspiring team!

A little bit about me

I’m a final year Biochemistry student with a passion for science and understanding how the world around us works. I’ve always been fascinated by the potential of science to improve lives, whether through developing new medicines or contributing to climate solutions that make our planet more sustainable. Over time, I discovered a strong interest in pharmaceutical chemistry, and I now hope to pursue a Master’s research project in antibiotic resistance; an area I believe is essential to the future of healthcare.

My internship

My time at In2careers has given me so much more than I expected. Not only have I gained practical skills in content creation designing posters, writing for different audiences, editing videos and marketing workshops, but I’ve also had the chance to engage in professional meetings, contribute to partnership development and really get a sense of what it’s like to work within a dynamic and mission-driven organisation.

Making connections

A huge part of my growth has come from the guidance and encouragement of Danielle and Ciara, who both believed in me from the beginning. They’ve consistently pushed me to stretch my abilities, given me space to be creative, and supported me in developing both my confidence and professional voice. Their warm and welcoming nature made it easy to settle in and feel like part of the team from day one.

I’ve also had the pleasure of working alongside colleagues like Dora and Hannah, whose advice and insights have helped me think differently about networking, career progression and building my future in STEM. I’ve learnt the importance of collaboration, the power of clear and inclusive communication, and the value of creating opportunities that truly make a difference in young people’s lives.

Seeing impact

One of the things I’ll take away from this experience is a greater appreciation for how impactful platforms like In2careers can be. They don’t just provide information; they offer inspiration, guidance, and real support for students like myself who are figuring out their next steps. It’s made me realise how vital it is to build spaces that are accessible and tailored to help young people thrive.

Although it’s bittersweet to leave, I’ll always be grateful for what I’ve learnt and the people I’ve met along the way. I’m walking away more confident, capable, and excited for what’s next.

Thank you to everyone at In2scienceUK – this experience will stay with me for a lifetime.
