This year’s In2scienceUK Celebration Event was a wonderful chance to bring together our supporters, beneficiaries, volunteers and staff to reflect on this year’s achievements across all three of our programmes. We are so grateful to everyone who attended!
We were fortunate enough for the event to take place at the Science Museum, with beautiful views of the London skyline. The evening started with an opportunity for those who took part in and supported programmes past and present to network. Our In2research participants from the 2024/25 programme also had the opportunity to present their projects and discuss the research they conducted during their placements.
Following the networking session, our speakers took to the stage. We first heard from our CEO Stephen Hancock and Madiha Sajid, Chair of our partner Upsign and Educational Leadership and EDI at Imperial College London, who also spoke at our In2research Away Day earlier that afternoon. They welcomed attendees and discussed the importance of serving young people from underserved communities in a world in which technology is rapidly changing our ways of living and working.

We then heard from Maryam Mamun, who took part in this year’s In2research programme. Maryam took to the stage to share her In2scienceUK experience, including how valuable she found her mentoring sessions with biotech co-founder David Kim, and how the programme’s workshops prepared her for the realities of academic life. Maryam also discussed her placement at the Babraham Institute on a project focusing on the mechanisms of antifungal drug resistance.
“And that’s one of the things I value and found within this programme: the sense of community. Science is rarely a solo journey; I’ve learnt it thrives on collaborative knowledge and support. In2research has given me the knowledge, confidence, and tools to make those decisions thoughtfully. I’m thrilled to continue that journey by joining the In2careers programme.”
