The In2scienceUK programme offers Year 12 students the chance to gain real-world experience, expert insights and practical support to help kickstart your career pathway into an area of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
Our 2021 programme will offer a unique hybrid scheme which will give you the opportunity for both a virtual and in-person STEM experiences – spread throughout a 4-week period in the summer – connecting you to expert scientists, engineers, technologists, and researchers, while taking part in your own research tasks working with cutting edge research and innovation.
You will be able to connect with like-minded students as well as experts from all areas of STEM providing you with the knowledge, skills and confidence you need to take the next step in your journey towards a future career in STEM.

The In2scienceUK programme will enable you not only to gain an insight into high-level research and enable you to stand out in your university and apprenticeship applications with the help of some of the UK’s leading scientists, engineers and researchers.
Online research modules. Produced by top researchers from across the UK, you’ll gain specialist knowledge and skills in topics not covered in school to help you get ahead of the game. Get a taster of life as a university student through live lectures, pre-reading and research tasks and make your UCAS applications really stand out.
Online skills, employability and careers workshops. We are offering you practical support for all aspects of kickstarting your career journey. Through online webinars hosted by experts in various fields, we’ll bring you guidance on areas including: personal statement writing, university admissions, CV writing and interview tips, university finance, STEM careers panels, a day in the life of a student to name just a few.
In person work shadowing and online mentoring. We specially match every student to a mentor whose work and career pathway will be of interest to you. You’ll get the chance to spend a day at their workplace along with up to 2 other students, where you’ll gain an insight on what it’s like to work in the STEM sector. Before meeting in person, you’ll have opportunities to get to know each other online and receive tailored advice for your own needs.
How It Works
After a hugely successful 2020 In2scienceUK Virtual Programme, the 2021 programme aims to continue offering our world class STEM opportunities while still ensuring the safety of participants and volunteers. As the world begins to work its way back to full capacity, our 2021 programme will offer a unique hybrid scheme which will give you the opportunity for both virtual and in-person STEM experience that will connect you to expert scientists, engineers, technologists, and researchers.
Throughout the placement you will get STEM experience, working on real research, clinical work or technical projects with your mentor, which are suited to your passions, interests and future career aspirations.
We place students in a wide variety of placements, across all STEM disciplines with leading universities and companies. From medicine to geochemistry, computer aided design to astronomy, and engineering to psychology, plus many more.
All of our placements take place over the summer during a 4 week period starting from the 26th July and running through the 20th August 2021 and are within commuting distance of where you live. In2scienceUK provides you with a bursary to cover your costs while on the placement.
By taking part, you also gain access to a wealth of careers, employability and STEM skills workshops and sessions throughout the summer.
