In2STEM

 Introducing In2STEM

In2STEM (formerly the In2science summer programme) is a fantastic opportunity for 16-19-year-olds (Year 12 or S5/S6) passionate about STEM. Running from July 22 to August 23 2024, the programme offers a blend of online and in-person activities, equipping participants with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to excel in STEM.

Our placements are located within commutable distance, ensuring all students can easily participate. In2STEM is entirely free to join, and we provide a bursary to cover travel and lunch expenses during placements!

Before the programme kicks off, students are invited to an informative induction event. Following a summer of personal and academic growth, we host a celebration event after the programme to honour and acknowledge your accomplishments.

Our student stories

During the programme, we have spent a lot of time in both teaching and PhD labs. This was exciting because I had never been to a lab before; it was also beneficial as it helped us become accustomed to the types of places where we would work and study at university.

It is one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life! It is the most productive, yet fun experience I’ve had. It is different every day, and we get to experiment and gain practical experience. Many university students may have really good theory and knowledge, but I will have great practical experience that is already proving to be very useful.

I am gaining a better insight into what it’s like to be in a lab setting. I like the practical side of my placement. Working with professional scientists and seeing how they work together has been very rewarding.

It’s such a great opportunity, and they also give you a lot of support with workshops. It’s not just placements, and they always follow up and help. On my placement I got to see consultants interacting with patients first-hand. Seeing the importance of communication and explaining to patients every step so they know what’s happening.

It’s given me many more ideas about what I could do, things that I didn’t think were available to me.  All I could base my ideas on before was what was taught in school, but now I have real-life experience.
